Your adventure begins as soon you are picked up outside the port gates and whisked away in a comfortable minivan on a sight-seeing drive of Mount Maunganui. Admire the beautiful coastline and mountain ringed with an abundance of coffee shops, cafes, and small boutiques.
From there you will journey through the picturesque, lush countryside to Te Whakarewarewa Valley (the geothermal valley). This area is home to the Tuhourangi Ngati Wahiao people who have hosted visitors from around the world since the 1800s.
While here, get up close and personal with the geothermal wonders, including boiling mud-pools, steam vents, and the world famous Pohutu geyser, along with three other geysers on the geyser terrace. Your private and local Maori guide is very knowledgeable and will share how the people of this village use the geothermal activity in their everyday life. Your group is kept small, making for a more intimate and one-on-one experience and allowing for your time to run smoothly and easy. After your guided tour, you will be treated to a cultural performance with Waiata (or songs) of history, Patere (rhythmic chants), stick games, poi dancing, and the world-famous HAKA war challenge. Prior to joining Abercrombie & Kent, Mr. Miller held a variety of executive positions with Royal Caribbean International and Celebrity Cruises for more than a decade. These positions included Vice President of Guest Sales & Service, Vice President of Brand Development, and Vice President of Onboard Revenue (which included shore excursions). Mr. Miller also led Celebrity Expeditions, a collection of outstanding and unique tours around the World.
Michael Bonner
Mr. Bonner has over a decade of experience working in the cruise industry in a variety of roles for both Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. and Viking River Cruises. Most recently, Mr. Bonner was the Chief Operating Officer for The Scholar Ship, a Royal Caribbean program aimed at providing college students onboard educational programs in conjunction with enriching shore excursions around the world.
